Just Because You Slip

We all make mistakes and do hypocritical things. We use words like always and never as absolutes and then we allot our ego and pride to hold ourselves hostage to an ideal. We are often stubborn, vindictive, or just ignorant to big sections of knowledge.  That is simply fine.  You shouldn’t know it all. You should instead develop a network of very diverse people to cover as much ground as possible to help you. You should continue to advance yourself and learn the important things to your life and enjoy the process of learning it.

Understand you will fail. You will be wrong, and the biggest reason is because we are too stubborn to believe differently. Any attempt to change a core element of self is difficult. Sometimes perceived impossible.

I make mistakes all the time.  For example, I used to have this thing where I would finish all the extra food leftover from meetings or just eat when I was bored, etc.  This is something I found about my binge eating and went on to repair some of that. However, it’s a challenge I must work through consistently.

Over my birthday week, I decided to give myself a little vacation from being smart about eating and drinking.  I stopped exercising for just a few days.  It’s not like my weight shot up, but I felt way different and tired all the time.  I needed more caffeine.  I would then stay up later, then eat late at night after failing to sleep. It can be a slippery slope and just fall off the wagon.  I’m not alone in this. You might have that flaw. Or maybe you recovered from some past issues and just when you think it’s over, this monster sits up and shows that it is very much alive.

We are not meant to be perfect. We get to experience all these things in life and sometimes our opinions change, or we learn something about how to handle a situation better.  There is no promise that you will improve, but if you start to love the process of your passions, then you will continue to be excited about learning more.

I am no expert. I’m the same as most people. I understand I fail. There will be times I regress, but nonetheless, the learning of new things is very exhilarating.  There are great moments when I understand something completely different, and it still ends up impacting other things that I do. So, when you feel you are slipping off your diet or you just aren’t to your perceived finish-line yet does not mean you are a failure. Failing does not always make you a failure.  You become a failure when you give up on the important things in life to focus and waste time on non-important bull or let other’s value supersede what you expect of yourself.

Basically, if you love what you do or want to know more about it, then be willing to think you are misunderstanding something and try it again.  Try it in different conditions. Ask more questions and enjoy the process. It doesn’t even have to be fitness related. Just don’t think you know it all. You never will know it all.
