You should read The 5am Club.

The book is weird and corny, yet charming and helpful. The 5 am Club is more of a narrative than the standard self-help formula. There are limited characters to follow, so it’s super easy to read. The characters are a bit deeper than names imply. The main characters are simply referred to by as their profession. Fitting as our personal networks do have a focus on what others can do professionally. Nonetheless, here are the important takeaways.

·         Wake up at 5am and get out of bed

·         Spend 20 minutes of physical exertion

·         (Physical exercise preferred, but… honestly go for a walk. Get your blood moving.)

·         Spend 20 minutes meditating

·         Think about the good things you will achieve that day

·         I like to review my To Do List

·         Think about the people I see today (positively)

·         Spend 20 minutes learning about something important to you

·         Practice a hobby

·         Read/write/journal

·         Learn about something important to you alone.

It’s great to start a day with solid focus and ambition.  We all get the same 24 hours, but some people make it look too easy. The key to a good day is to have a good morning. It sets the pace.  If I start off bad, I kind of want to just give up.  But if I start strong, I often feel surprised at how much gets done and there is still time left.

Secondly, I forgot how peaceful it is most mornings.  It’s eerie quiet and somehow pure serenity. It starts to feel like a cheat code. Like you are benefiting from a part of the game everyone forgets about. It’s rewarding to see the time say 8:00am and understand how much stuff is already done. I don’t have to think about those things/chores anymore. I can focus on the next think fully, and I feel I grant myself reflection and self-discipline to overcome other things.
